This world and its evolvement never fails to surprise us. With each passing year, we have new advancements in every field. From rotary phones to landlines to smartphones, from going out for meals to ordering home deliveries, from waiting for a cab on the road to calling an Uber. Things have surely changed, not only for us healthy and physically fit people, but also for people who are disabled and need special care and attention.
For a disabled person who depends on any mobility device, when he requires transportation, he faces so much difficulty. And not every ride meets their requirements. Considering this problem, Uber and Lyft introduced wheelchair accessible ridesharing and made it easy for such people to travel with safety and comfort. While this innovation deserves appreciation, it is also important for people to know how it works and what rights do they have when traveling in wheelchair accessible vehicles.
It doesn’t matter if you have a wheelchair, scooter, or any other mobility device UberWAV can help you with transportations at any time. UberWAV allows riders to connect with drivers with WAV (mostly third party companies). These riders are certified in Passenger Service and Saftey.
Not many people know about Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV) due to which cab services have less number of WAV drivers. Uber, as always one step ahead of everyone, adopted this innovative idea to take care of the transportation of disabled people, and introduced its UberWAV service. Lyft also has Access Mode. It easily connects users with drivers to avail WAV service.
For a foldable wheelchair, Uber offers UberASSIST. It provides riders with an option to keep their folded wheelchair along with them and helps the passengers in and out of the WAV. But the thing with UberASSIST is that it doesn’t support non-folding (motorized) wheelchairs.
UberASSIST train drivers who provide this service and educate them to safely transfer the disables passenger from wheelchair to car and back.
